Led by Issam and Gord, we bring years of experience in residential development and a passion for community-focused housing. Together, we guide projects that balance affordability, quality, and sustainability.
About Gord:
Gord Johnston joined Build Edmonton Homes on December 1, 2025 as Chief Executive Officer.
Before joining Build Edmonton Homes, Gord spent close to four years as Chief Executive Officer at Civida, the largest provider of community and affordable housing in northern Alberta. Believing in investing in people is the key to success, Civida was nationally recognized for its corporate culture following a large-scale organizational transformation which resulted in more greater availability of affordable homes, housing supports, and significantly increased customer satisfaction.
During Gord's tenure as Civida CEO, the organization expanded its owned and operated units by approximately 50% which resulted in close to 2000 more Edmontonians being affordably housed. Gord and the Civida team were also responsible for the successful planning of approximately 500 additional units of affordable housing (with one large development now in construction) in partnership with all levels of Government, not for profit partners, and private sector partners. When these projects are completed, they will result in an over 1500 more individuals being affordably housed.
His over three-decade long career in public service spans across different levels of government and regional service delivery systems. His experience within the Government of Alberta includes roles as Chief Strategy Officer for the Human Services Ministry, and Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) roles responsible for the Child and Family Services system in Alberta as well as ADM responsible for Advanced Education.
Gord is currently a board member with the Boys and Girls Club of Strathcona County and was previously was a member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association, e4c (including two years as Chair) and The United Way of the Alberta Capital Region.
Born and raised in a small town in Saskatchewan, Gord believes in getting back to basics through customer centric service delivery, helping others and collectively building strong and resilient communities where individuals and families can grow and thrive.
